Back and Neck Centre

The Back and Neck Centre provides specialised programs for not only neck pain and back pain but also associated programs for sports injuries and treatment for all general physiotherapy conditions. An ultrasound imaging scanner is used in conjunction with our Core Stability Back program.

As some conditions may include referred pain from the back and neck, it is necessary that the Back & Neck Centre musculo-skeletal physiotherapists are trained in and have an in-depth understanding of the body as a whole. Our centre has the most up to date equipment and programs to manage the most complex conditions for both acute and chronic pain. The core stability re-training program for back pain has been producing outstanding results. Also achieving similar results is the re-training program for neck pain, with the main emphasis on restoring ‘muscle control’ rather than muscle strength.

Perhaps you have tried other treatments, maybe by now you feel you have “been there and done that”, and you are still are looking for answers. The Back and Neck Centre offers a no nonsense approach with emphasis mainly on teaching patients to be involved in the management of their conditions to produce lasting results. This ensures that patients become self-sufficient and not reliant on quick-fix remedies. As the same physiotherapist will treat you at each session, The Back and Neck Centre can offer you continuity of treatment in a reassuring environment that is lacking in many multi-therapist practices

Why a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist?

Musculo-skeletal covers: discs, joints, ligaments, muscles, spine, and vertebrae.

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists (Tier 2 Physiotherapists) study for 5 years full-time for their qualifications and this high level of knowledge and skill is maintained through a compulsory professional development program. They have advanced skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of musculo-skeletal conditions and these skills assist with an accurate, cost effective diagnosis and appropriate evidence based management of conditions. In Australia, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists have world leading expertise in the effective management of pain related to the musculo-skeletal system. Exercise programs designed and supervised by Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists result in reduced disability, reduced absenteeism and a faster return to work. There is also strong evidence to support that these programs are more effective in the management of recurrent and chronic low back pain, than is bed rest, analgesics and massage.

What you should wear.

Assessment and treatment requires the physiotherapist to observe the area of pain and surrounding areas and it may be necessary to move the patient into various positions. Shorts or track pants are suitable for back and leg conditions and sleeveless or string tops are suitable for neck and shoulder conditions. For personal comfort, it is recommended that conventional undergarments are worn. It may be more convenient to bring suitable clothing to change into for the physiotherapy session.

Your Appointment.

We request that patients who are under 18, attend with a parent or guardian.
Depending on the condition, an appointment time can vary between 20 minutes to 1 hour. As The Back and Neck Centre does not charge by time, only one condition can be treated per session.
As there are many different treatment approaches used at the Back and Neck Centre, treatment will be comprised of one or more of (but not limited to) a selection of therapies such as: Hands-on treatment, electrotherapy, exercises, traction and/or strapping.

Please bring any of these items that you feel will be relevant to your assessment:

Referral letter and/or medical certificate.
X-rays or scans.
Running shoes and orthotics.
Private health fund card, DVA card and/or other forms of payment.

Cancelling appointments:
Please notify us as soon as you are aware of your inability to attend for your appointment so as we may assist another patient on our cancellation list. We understand that unforeseen circumstances arrive and our phones are diverted, during lunchtime and out of hours for cancellation or rescheduling of appointments. If more convenient, you may wish to notify us by an email.
This practice reserves the right to charge a non-attendance fee for failing to attend for an appointment without notification.

Referrals

The Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists at the Back & Neck Centre are highly trained healthcare providers able to diagnose and treat as primary contact practitioners. Although it is recommended that you consult with your family GP, you actually do not need a referral to attend as a private patient. You will need a referral if a third party is paying for your treatment.

Examples of these are:
Dept. of Veterans Affairs
Medicare Australia -EPC Plans
Insurance Companies - Motor Vehicle Claims
Workers Compensation Claims - in all states
